Night out on the balcony Poet falls asleep in basketball shorts every night. Dreamer slips out of his basketball shorts into the cold air. He sees Night on his balcony but cannot tell what Night does or does not do out there, behind the glass screen door. “Why are you on my balcony on but this one night of all the nights?” the Dreamer inquires. “Those times in your life lacking footprints are those in which you failed to step outside,” Night coyly reveals. Night takes a deep inhalation as if smoking, but exhales normal Night air. Himself released in concentrated excess through his own mouth. Poet tries to think about this but can only occupy one head at a time. Dreamer pipes up again – “Can you explain the gradual shift in temperament that occurs within me each day as Day exchanges duties with yourself?” “Poets often only see that which is on the tip of their nose in great detail, while remaining completely oblivious of that on the tip of their tongue.” Poet remains Dreamer, but takes a mental note of these quips, hoping to remember them upon reoccupying himself. Dreamer leaves Night alone on the balcony and locks the slide door while under some other’s control. Dreamer poors himself a tall glass of cold milk. As he does this, Day peeks in through his window, remaining completely hidden except for his eyes which remain mostly closed. Night calmly struggles once to open the door to come inside but cannot, because Dreamer locked him outside tonight. He gestures – without any clear disturbance to his countenance – to Dreamer who sits sipping his milk and staring blankly ahead, with his eyes mostly closed. Day breaks
