So yeah, here I am. On gemini! Or shall I say, gemspace? I am still learning the gemini-lingo I suppose. Anyway.
Previously, I had a blog on this domain on a much less simple (compared to gemini, hehe) protocol. Somehow I grew weary of the design-choices I made back then (it was a static site generated by hugo with a terminal theme that I shoehorned gruvbox colors onto) and faced with the challenge of refactoring my theme, I just didn't feel like posting anything there anymore. And retrospectively, many posts there covered some really trivial stuff that anyone with some brains and guts could come up with. (At least, that's what I think.)
So gemini really comes at the right time for me; Even though aparrently all the cool kids jumped onto the gemini hypetrain during covid.
"Less is more"
Instead of choosing some hugo theme and hacking it to fit my (temporary) needs, now I can just lazily rely on the clients that are available to render my content. How cool is that? It really is a little bit like LaTeX; I just supply the content. (Granted, LaTeX is more complex than this markdown-spinoff.)
The only thing I find weird about gemini is its URL prefix. gemini:// seems a little verbose to me, compared to http:// which is not spelled out like
hypertexttransferprotocol://
why not just gmi://, or gmni://?
Now, the https part of this domain just points to my gotosocial instance. Check it out:
I cannot guarantee that every toot will be in english though, as it is not my native lingo. However, I will strictly keep this capsule in english, in contrast to my previous blog, which wasn't.
Anyway, I guess this concludes my first actual post on my capsule. Expect... more posts in the future? :b
