I've finally got round to building up the missing pieces of my personal soundsystem. Next to the pro audiophiles out there - and just people with a lot of money - what I'm putting together is really pretty basic and budget, but for me it's a hell of an improvement and I'm super excited.
My source(s):
- x2 technics 1210 turntables
- x1 aux-to-RCA output from computer monitor (from HDMI via laptop)
- [tbc] audio output from local raspberry pi for local digitised music collection (and possibly a bit of streaming. For this I would also need a Digital Analogue Converter)
I also have a gemini PS02 mixer for the turntables, though these days I predominantly just use the one turntable for listening and I don't do much DJing. That said, that might change with this new kit I've got on the way... and maybe I'll see if I can get some icecast streaming setup at some point and do some live sessions.
After years of making do at home running my turntables through the mixer and then the HiFi system I've had for 20+ years (that is, since I was 15!), I've finally invested in a new amplifier and speakers. I spent a good while narrowing down a shortlist of hardware within my budget and I finally narrowed it down to these two components, which numerous reviews pitch as a really good match, and from what I can tell they'll do well with a lot of the music I often listen to. I've gone for:
- Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 speakers
- NAD 316BEE V2 amplifier
The speakers arrived today[1] and with a bit of luck the amplifier (and speaker cable(!)) should arrive tomorrow... meaning I should be able to go into the weekend with a fully new audio setup that I hope lives up to my expectations.
I cannot wait!
