Computer Collection: Sylvia
Sylvia the iGEL M340C, with foot attached
About
My third thin client that I've bought in my life is this M340C from iGEL. It's an LX model, so it came to me with iGEL OS for remote desktop.
I bought this assuming it would be the older, lower end model, but actually lucked out, as it was the newer 2018 revision with a higher end CPU. Other than that, it came to me with 4GB of flash storage and 2GB of RAM in the form of one DDR3 SODIMM. I ripped out the flash, trimmed the rubber pillar it sat on with a utility knife, and inserted the PCB of a Patriot Burst 120GB SSD (using Toshiba BiCS flash) into the DOM slot.
Instead of its original intended purpose of being a CalDAV / CardDAV server, I decided to turn it into a retro gaming box for emulation.
The trivia section has a few bits.

Trivia
- The M340C uses the same case as the M330C. It's just upgraded.
- This thin client has a capacitive touch power button. After the Xbox One had one, I can't believe something like this would end up having one too. I don't like it.
- This is the only thin client I've seen so far that has a POST beep.
- It has a smart card reader cutout on the front panel, but mine has no reader fitted. It must be optional.
- Unlike the Wyse 5020 / Dx0Q, there is ample room to replace the OEM disk on module with a shucked 2.5" SSD PCB, once you trim the rubber pillar originally in place to keep the OEM DOM from falling out. There's about 12mm of space between that and the screw for the passive heatsink at that point - a lot of room. Patriot Burst (non Elite) SSDs work (it's what I used), Samsung 870 Evos seem to have ones that'll fit too. I think Kingston A400's will fit too, but I haven't tested it.
- It only has one RAM slot, unlike the Wyse.
- It uses a SATA cable to connect the front I/O board to the motherboard. This is probably because the standard USB 3.0 internal cable is far too large to fit inside the case.
