… an Oxymoron in the first place, a contradiction. Black means darkness, while radiation is bright. In fact this contradiction is resolvable when taking a closer look. Nevertheless I think this is a nice word puzzle, therefore I chose this name for this site. More on that below.
… a concept to describe the interaction of matter with electromagnetic waves, especially in the context of heat. This needs a longer description.
Every object with a temperature above 0 Kelvin (i.e. everything in the universe) radiate some heat as electromagnetic waves. Usually we don't see it since since the wavelength is in the infrared range (but we can feel it as heat on our skin).
Hotter objects on the other hand are quite visible for us, at least with a red glow. The sun, which is extremely hot, shines yellow. These colors are temperature dependent.
Energy conservation requires, that an object, which is able to absorb radiation, also emits radiation in the same amounts. A hypothetical object, which could absorb all the radiation directed to it and appears absolutely black, would therefore be able to emit the highest possible amount of radiation. Such an object is called "black body" or "black radiator". Of course, such a black body doesn't exist in reality, it remains a model concept to describe properties of radiation. However it is technically possible to design an object with properties close to a black radiator: The hollow-sphere radiator, a hollow sphere with a small opening. A light beam sent into the opening will be absorbed with high propability and won't escape the hollow sphere. On the other hand from a hot glowing hollow sphere radiator a bright light will be emitted from the opening. I chose the hollow sphere radiator as the Unicode-Art-Logo of this site. Here is the part representing the hollow sphere radiator:

I don't go into more detail why the black radiator is highly relevant for our understanding of physics. Just one side note: Max Plack's efforts to correctly describe the radiation properties of the black radiator was the birth of quantum physics. [1]
… this Gemini capsule. By the way, thanks for visiting, dear readers!
Many years ago (around 2010), when I heard about the black radiator in my bachelor study, I already had the idea to start a blog with this title. I never did it, also due to other blog topics I was starting or being part of [2][3]. When I heard about the Gemini protocol in spring 2022, this idea came back into my mind and I decided to use this platform to bring this idea to life. That's where we are now.
The idea of this capsule is to emit and absorb ideas, views and opinions, as the black radiator does with light [4]. The topics will be various, from science and technology (as you might have guessed) to philosophy, religion and atheism, politics and life. As you see I have a tendencyq to extensive wording, which might not fit well to the fast moving HTTP-web, but perfectly to the Geminispace.

[4] To make it clear: Not me, the author, is the "the black radiator", but this site. In all the years that I have been using the Internet I never had a consistent nickname. I often use my real name, which is Martin Marot-Perz by the way.
