Researchers upend theory about the formation of the Milky Way Galaxy
Analysis of Gaia data leads researchers to adjust the collision history of the Milky Way by 5 Ga. The takeaway here is that secular astronomers have a very clear picture of the formation and history of the universe, but sometimes they can be off by a few billion years, give or take.
'Weird' new planet retained atmosphere despite nearby star's relentless radiation
This planet is problematic for secular astronomers, as any "late-stage" planet close to a red giant star should have had its atmosphere burnt off long ago. So, this is a possible point of interest for YAC folks. More interesting, though, are some honest admissions from the researchers:
"We don't understand the late-stage evolution of planetary systems very well," Grunblatt said. "This is telling us that maybe Earth's atmosphere won't evolve exactly how we thought it would."
"We still have a long way to go in understanding how planetary atmospheres evolve over time," Grunblatt said.
