Hello, I was trying to think of something useful I could contribute to the gemini space, and keep coming back to standing up a manually curated list of capsules. Listed by some broad topics, one line summary etc. A bit like 'Trunk' for Mastodon (https://communitywiki.org/trunk). It might be a nice thing to have in addition to search with GUS and the CAPCOM / Spacewalk feed pages etc. Does anyone know of anything out there already like this? If there is an active one I'd rather contribute in some way than duplicate effort. If there isn't one, I'm hoping to stand up something by the new year. Just static pages in a Git repo, which I can expand by reviewing GUS new hosts periodically, doing simple dead link checks, and accepting submissions by email or Git patch etc. Cheers, dctrud

Looks like there is a bit of interest in the directory idea, so I have gone ahead and put a very quick skeleton of some initial categories that I think make sense from my time browsing around the Gemini space up at: https://git.sr.ht/~dctrud/gemini-directory . This is now hosted at gemini://directory.randomroad.net Note the disclaimer in index.gmi - the directory is almost empty to begin with, but putting it up now in the hope that I might get a few links suggested :-) Hoping to work through the categories and add initial links over the remaining holidays this year. I'll 'officially' announce it once it hits the arbitrary target of 100 links. Cheers! dctrud -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... This is now hosted at gemini://directory.randomroad.net A lot of capsule content are gemlog posts of varying subjects. How would you like that to be categorized? I.e. if <author> has a gemlog and writes about movies, sports, and food, should there be just one link to the gemlog itself under ?gemlogs?, a link to it under each of those categories, or a link to it under ?gemlogs? and links to individual posts under categories they fit? I guess the answer to categorization is that it'll be 'however I see fit'. but anyone submitting a link can suggest it's put where they think is best. I want this to be low effort, zero to-and-fro for anyone suggesting a link - just throw me a link, or put it where you think it goes in a patch. I'm not particularly interested in setting out rules and things around this, and I don't think they'd work. Sometimes a single post/page might be notable. Sometimes a link to the root of a capsule would be better. I'll do whatever I feel at the time :-) Hopefully as I add links it'll basically show what I'm thinking, and prior to there being enough links for that I'll just move any suggestions as I see fit. My overriding goal with this is to have a place that just gets a bunch of links to interesting Gemini capsules 'out there'. It's a personal project that I'd love to get suggestions for, rather than a community project with aims, rules, etc. set out. If it is at all useful and in the end someone takes the directory and makes it more structured, and that's better / more popular - well that'd be an excellent outcome. Cheers, dctrud
Hi all, I unexpectedly managed to sit down this evening with some snacks, a beverage, and enough time to do an initial rough pass on my gemini directory idea, and it is now up at: gemini://directory.randomroad.net I think there are likely to be enough links there now that it's potentially a useful resource for people who want to start exploring the Gemini space. This was really a mad grab of things all over the Gemini space this evening, so there's no nice ordering of links and descriptions for the links are very rough. Please excuse typos. I'll come back around to improve the pages over time. The categories aren't really filled out either, e.g. to link from topics such as 'Linux' or 'Programming' to the many appropriate gemlogs. I'll try and find time to do that too. Source is at https://git.sr.ht/~dctrud/gemini-directory Drop me an email if you want to suggest I link something, or patches if you are really keen to help! If you want to grab the lists and approach this all in a different way completely, then go for it! Cheers, dctrud -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
