Does anyone else get a wierd feeling when they stumble upon someones personal site where they share their whole resume/CV including real life addresses and phone numbers. I get that the internet was a lot different 20-30 years ago and people didn't worry much about spam bots or doxxing but in 2022 that just kinda seems very risky without much benefit. Then again, people old enough to remember a time when sharing RL info like that you're too old to give a shit about being doxxed

I have my resume on my www site. I don't worry about doxxing (there is little risk of that for various reasons). However I have just been thinking of removing it recently as there is also little benefit to have it there, so it is not worth having it up regardless of the low risk. · 2 years ago
I considered putting my resume up on gemini, unlisted and obfuscated, but then I realized that there's no point to doing that if nobody else can read it. Maybe if I was part of a gemini-intranet within an organization or if I become an author or academic I'd post a CV or resume, but I'd rather stay pseudonymous on the frontier · 2 years ago
I do share my VC on the internet. But the only contact info is through email and obscure open-source IM apps like Jami and Matrix. Haven't seen spammers going through those protocols yet. · 2 years ago
A telephone directory is a mapping of name to contact details. My name/email details are bundled in every git commit I've made. My name is on any papers published through university. Name and contact details are pretty close to public.
I used to worry about online privacy and remaining anonymous, but I no longer do. Sure, bad actors can use that information against me, but they'll do that anyway. May as well make it easy for the people who want to contact me.
Also yeah, github is the best telephone directory for good software developers. · 2 years ago
