i guess i just like square cursors for aesthetics or because i enjoyed those on pravetz-8d (oric atmos bulgarian clone).

but recently i notice that exact position of pipe cursor is not always clear to me, not sure if it relates to the character on the left of it or right of it.

I like the square cursor when I'm editing code because it's easier to spot, but for general text fields I prefer a pipe.

vi-wise, you need both block (signifies character) and line (signifies insertion point). I think you can live without one at the cost of redundancy or missing information. I tend to prefer missing information even though it's probably stupid. I'm agnostic to the blink.

I am happy with a few blinks on motion, then, a steady block

TBH I just noticed to have a square cursor that blinks slowly.

Ah, remember now. I used to have a vertical line cursor in the past, but when there is lots of text on the screen, it was difficult to spot, which required a faster blink rate - which was irritating to me when I had focus on the cursor already.

So i settled for the square (well, rectangle) cursor with a slow blink.

Blinky bar. I don't need a constant reminder of how wide a character is, only where the next character is going to start.

do you like square cursors or pipe like cursors? should the cursor blink?
