Award-winning photojournalist Motaz Azaiza was welcomed to Derry by a
rapturous applause as he took to the stage with Derry Girls star Jamie
Lee O'Donnell for an event to discuss his experience in Gaza before and
after October 7.
The event was organised by Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign and
the Derry City and Strabane District Council, hosted at the Guildhall.
Prior to the event, Mr. Azaiza was presented to the crowd at Free Derry
Corner to see a mural of solidarity. A large crowd were in attendance
to receive Mr. Azaiza as he explained his experience of the current
struggle in Gaza.
In a symbolic act, Mr. Azaiza, IPSC and the crowd marched from Free
Derry Corner to the Guildhall along the planned route of the Northern
Ireland Civil Rights Association on January 30, 1972, Bloody Sunday.
The crowd were not dampened by the weather as they showed their
solidarity with the Palestinian struggle.
