WUSSY is documented back to 1878 (Mother Goose's Melodies or Songs for the Nursery). In 'The Foreign Freaks of Five Friends, Cecilia Anne Jones, 1882, she states "Pussy and Wussy at once took their places on the front seat". "pussy-wussy" make many appearences in early 20th century, finally firmly landing in frat-boy speak in the 70's as WUSSY and WUSS. Although Merriam-Webster defines only the noun form, WUSS, WUSSED and WUSSING are used in verb form as well, often followed by 'out'...
