Captain Silver Sage

2020-12-18

Today is my vacation day off work. The Mrs. has to work. In fact it's about the busiest time of the year for her.

Last night the furnace blew the fuse on the control panel again at about 11:30pm. I replaced it and it started right back up. I used a local HVAC company's online form to request service. Haven't heard a word from them. I called another company who in fact installed the service some years ago. They said they would try but were very busy. Fortunately the furnace works if I replace the fuse, but it's an obvious problem and at some point it may stop working.

(Later this same day...)

It's about 5pm and I'm happy to report that the furnace repairman came out at about 4:15pm and thinks he has determined that a wire at the thermostat was shorting out at the furnace control panel and blowing the fuse. He said he tested every other thing that he can and found no problems. After showing me how he thinks it may have been happening I tend to believe him but of course only time will tell. It's certainly better than the previous repairman:

Don't you think it would be a good idea to try to figure out why the fuse blew? I mean it's a safeguard that's there for a reason and simply points to a problem in the system.
