Alla'u'Abha. We would like to know if there are active Baha'i chat
rooms on the net. We found one, but never seem to find anyone in it!
We've heard there are others but don't know how to find them. Any
guidance & info will be greatly appreciated.

F.Y.I. we are both Baha'is, so we will be interested in chat groups/
rooms for Baha'is only as well as open Fireside type forums. Please
feel free to respond to us via private email as well as here in the NG.

There are several Baha'i chats on the Internet - IRC for one, but I don't
know much about it. However, on AOL there has been an ongoing one-hour
Baha'i Chat every Monday at 10:30 p.m. E.T. (I am one of the three hosts)
for three and one-half years. There are also several other impromptu
chats set up on AOL, almost every night in People Connection. I also
believe that Prodigy, Compuserve and MSN also have Baha'i chats, but as I
am only on AOL, I don't have direct information about them. Perhaps
someone else can help.

If you have access to AOL, it would be lovely to have you visit us during
our Baha'i chat.

Warm regards,

The Busiest "Chat room" on the net the the Internet Relay Chat (IRC)
channel #bahai on the "Efnet" system of servers.
It is open 24 hours a day.

The "people" with "@" are not humans, but Bots who assist in looking
after the channel, so please do not be offended when "They" do not
return your chats..

You will need a piece of software to get onto IRC and for PC users the
most common is Pirch or Mirc (http://www.mirc.co.uk) Both are shareware.

You will put in a "nick" nickname to use on IRC . Mine is "fragrant" so
you can look out for me.

In reply to the chat rooms for Baha'is. On AOL there are several. I
created one called Baha'is online because I was seeking Baha'i rooms
and couldn't find any. No one came to my room. Then I requested
assistance in finding chat rooms for Baha'is and my request was
answered and am now in touch with many Baha'is. We created a speciall
room just for Baha'is with every day chit chat. It is a private room
called Bahai Coffee House. All are welcome.

The one I frequent is #bahai, which was a godsend when I first joined
the faith, and couldn't attend firesides! Many wonderful, knowledgeble
people there and it's open 24 hours! I think it also depends which
server you're using, so try: irc.voicenet.com and see what happens.
Hope to "see" you there!

whole WWW. What I'm getting from your statement is that this is a
myth. In order to talk to you in an AOL chat-room, I have to be on
AOL. Uh-oh! Maybe I should call AT&T and find out HOW to get there
from Worldnet. Is there a specific address? Where should I tell the
tech people I'm trying to go? Any defining info will probably help
them help me.

Thanks so Much,

Dear CRSS: AOL, Prodigy, Compuserve & MSN (and a few others, I think)
have their own proprietory access to the Internet and the Web. Other
servers, such as Worldnet, and many many others give you access to the
Internet and the Web, but not directly to AOL, etc., which charge a
monthly fee. Although on AOL I can communicate to everyone via the
Internet by e-mail and can access all Web sites, unless I am a member
of Prodigy, Compuserve or MSN, I cannot access them from AOL.
However, I have noticed that you have had other replies regarding
Baha'i chats in other locations.

Warm regards,

I tried to go there and got a message saying something to the effect
that the address was wrong, but come on in and look around . . .
yadi-yada-yada. Please, check for typos and repost this address for me
and other interested souls.

Thanks so Much,

Hi everyone asking about chat rooms;

I have also set ap a Java-based chat room on my web site. You will need
a computer using Windows-95, unfortunately. This will change in the
future. There are no set meeting times right now, but that will change
next week. The address is:

Hi Shenassa,

I am writing regarding your comment about IRC.

I haven't frequented the IRC in a while, but there used to be a couple
Baha'i chat rooms on EFnet.(kind of a world wide chat room). You can get
to Efnet with most IRC clients. I used to use MIrc, but there are others
you can find on the web. Then just try connecting to all the Efnet sites
you can find until one lets you in. (The Efnet is usually really loaded on
most servers, so finding a server with room is not always that easy. The
newer servers usually have the most room, so keeop an eye out for postings
of new irc servers with Efnet access)

Anyway once you do that you can usually find one or more Bahai chat rooms
listed (type "/list"). There are probably other ways to get on Efnet by
now, but like I said. It's been a while since I've been to one. If I have
time, I'll check it out today, and give better instructions. If the baha'i
chat groups are still there that is.

Anyway, you don't have to be on AOL to get to the Efnet

Talk to you later,
Chris

Hi Shenassa
I am writing to you too about the IRC chat rooms.
I have been and had a look at this IRC thingy, and see that it is
alive and well. I had a couple of hours yesterday speaking
to those who frequent the area, and have met some lovely
folks.
If I see you in there, I would like to chat with you too.

Best Regards,

TeeCee
