Hey guys,

I'm an Iranian atheist and just wanted to say that I love you all and I am deeply sorry about how the Iranian government is treating Bahá'í people. My mother is a teacher and she used to tell me about her wonderful Bahá'í students who were always caring but unfortunately were treated with cruelty. It is devastating that Bahá'í kids no longer can have access to basic education.

I really hope for a better future for all of us. I thought this post might cheer some of you up. <3

Thank you! That means a lot. Honestly, the Baha'i community is so grateful to the many brave souls in the secular and academic communities, within Iran and abroad, who have repeatedly come to the defense of the Baha'is. My wife is Iranian-American but was born here, and we would love to be able to visit the places where her parents and grandparents grew up in Iran. Sadly, I don't know if that would be wise given the continued persecution of the Baha'is. We can use all the support we can get.
Again, thank you for your kindness and for taking the time to share your thoughts with us.

Thanks for the kind words!

Much appreciation for these sentiments!
The Baha'is see the present as dark but the future as ultimately bright for the whole of humanity. And I hope those of us striving for the world's betterment and development can make the world one that preserves the rights, dignity, and wellbeing of all people.

Merci Aziz.

u/ResidentDoctorEvil:

This is the first I’ve heard about this. What’s going on over there?

u/NotACynic:

The first you've heard of the Iranian government oppressing Baha'is in general...or of the more specific stuff happening now?

u/ResidentDoctorEvil:

More of the latter, but both to an extent

The persecution of the Bab, Bahá’u’lláh, Abdu'l-Bahá and their followers by the Persian and Ottoman empires are major points in the early days of the Faith. Bahá’ís are still under attack by some evangelical groups in America but most notably in Iran where it isn’t recognized as a religion but as a political movement that is in cahoots with western powers to destroy the Islamic State of Iran. A good YouTube search will bring up many past and present atrocities.

u/ResidentDoctorEvil:

Oh, that. Sometimes as a North American it’s easy to forget Persia and the Ottoman empire are today Iran and Turkey.
