A few years back, our teacher told us that we’d be playing a game, which involved having imaginary states solve disputes. And so we were to think up these states, when I get a project, I either spend no time at all on it, or a huge ton, so I came back with a short constitution, a flag, an anthem, some cultural events, and most importantly now, a calendar.

The society concentrated on simplicity and efficiency, and lore-wise they had no history of like, our world, so it was just build without a regard for how their systems would evolve from our systems. Although I wanted it to be remotely plausible for us to transfer to such a system.

Thus I started with the presumption that 7 is probably a good number of days to subdivide into. I went ahead and, divided 365 by 7 and that is of course terrible, but interestingly enough, it is an off by one thing, where 364 divides wonderfully into 13 months with 4 weeks each, which is closest you can get to now since 31/7 is about 4.4 which rounds down to 4 weeks, it’s kinda interesting how all the extra days add up to another month, but again, off by one.

So I declared that the one or two days, depending on leap years for now are just free extra days, called new year’s or whatever, “Dragonfly Festival” by the Astartian people.

This subdivides the month neatly, every month starts on one day, ends on another and is the same length, it sounds so beautifully wonderful, however, this breaks the lunar significance of our calendar. Which you may argue is not a significant point, it even drifts around month to month slightly, although that’s almost like, aww, so close, rather than a pattern.

So, I will probably rethink this a lot, and find something to base off of for a multi-planet civilization. Until then, whatever way you choose to express that when in.
