Keyboard Base Coat

2020-12-08T20:48

Last night I put the second base coat down. There has been a lot of work in preparing for the paint, but it wasn't interesting so I didn't write much about it.

Last week I said that I wasn't sure whether I would clear over the top, but I have now decided that I will. I'll need to see how this final coat looks after it's dry, but I expect that clear will go over the top of this coat. But first I need to put some more paint on the bottom.

The problem I had with the dissimilar paint on the baseplate has been resolved. It isn't perfect, but because it'll almost be entirely hidden by keys so I don't mind.

Also, the dovetails are still showing slightly though the paint. Again, this doesn't bother me. If it were a screw head, that would be too much, but a sign that it's well built despite the join being hidden under paint is fine by me. It may disappear after putting the clear on, but I won't be surprised if it shows again over time.

The colour I have chosen is called Torquay Sand. It's an old Holden colour from the 80s¹. I wanted a solid light cream or beige that would be complemented nicely with white.

And now I'll leave you with some pictures.
