Today my wife and I have moved the gang to the basement tank. I didn't use the bucket to get them this year. It's 5 degree celisius outside and they aren't active enough. I used the fish net to get them. Finally in the tank they looked a litte confused at first, but that went by in a minute. In a couple of minutes they eate off the food we gave them. A good sign, they seems to be fine.
We managed to mesure them before releades them into the tank. Their lenght is now:
Skyggan 13,5 cm
Norman 17 cm
Blixten 15,5 cm
I have washed the tank and interior, and filled it up with water. Now it's ready for the fish.
---
The winter and spring 2023 went be and early summer the gang was set free into the pond.
We have new neighbors with 2 cats which are very interested in fish... So I had to put a metal net over the pond. Well, that is the most exiting happening this year.
---
It's getting cold outside. 8 centigrades. I figured it was time to get the fish out of the pond and into the tank in the basement. 2 weeks ago I prepaired the tank. I washed it, the stones and the gravel. After filling it up with water I started the small filter pump. Fish tanks needs to run for a couple of weeks so that the baceria flora establishes.
After allmost 2 days I managed to catch all 3 of them using my fish net. You know the type sport fishermen carrying to land the catch. I placed it vertically in the water. It's big enough to cover from bottom to over the surface. I waited for a long time but they are rather passive in the cold water so it was not successfull. To get them moving I started to fill up the pond. That made the move. So after a looong time Blixten swimmed in the net, and I tilted it so that he was trapped. Then I pour him from the net into the bucket. Allmost directly after that I could repet the procedure with Skuggan. Norman did not come out of the vegetation. So I took the bucket to the basement and hang it in the water in the tank to climatice it (the same temparatur in both the bucket and the tank). I gave it an hour.
So outside again waiting for Norman. After half an hour Norman started to move. I guess he was looking for his friends. After another while I was able catch him as well.
Finally they are swimming in the tank. Feel good. I miss Apelsin, though...
Today they chased eachother after eating as thay normally do. They ralaxed while I was sitting by the pond. Looking at me without distress. Feels really good.
I'm sad about Apelsin...
This is the first day they took food without hiding starit away.
The 3 came out and ate well. Still afraid.
My wife and I placed a metal nett over the pond.
Norman, Blixten and Skuggan came out and ate some. They picked food and hid directly under the stones. Afraid.
Apelsin is gone. I blame the neightbour cat...
When I came home from job I didn't see any fish. A couple of plants at the bottom was moved. Something was not well. After looking for them for a while Blixten came out and was obisly afraid. Norman and Skuggan swimmed out after a while. Stressed. I didn't see Apelsin...
All 4 seems to enjoy the pond. The move seemed to be as little stressfull as possible. Great.
I released them to the pond today.
Look here:
I measured Apelsin to 10 cm. The others I didn't stress to measure, guess they gained 10% of their lenght as Apelsin did.
I have started to train the fish for 3 days ago. And it's going well!
Here is the training log:
I' am certantly not a good blogger! 3 month sins last post...
Well, all 4 of our swimming friends is doing great. They are definitly not afraid of me. Sometimes I move towards the tank to watch them when they aren't aware of me. But right away they see that somebody is there. That makes them a little afraid, until I speak that is. When they hear my voice they stops, turning towards me and looking. They are getting exited and happy to see me. Out of love... Or is it just that they suspect it's feeding time. Either one of the reasons, it's fun and I enjoys it. Spesking to them as if they were professional small talkers!
The water quality is stable and good, even if don't change any of the water in 2 weeks. It's recommended to change some of the water at least once a week, though.
The tank seems to do its job. The fish can, and do from time to time hide underneth and behind rocks. And around the two plants I had in the pond. It is kind of open in there so I want more stuff to make the fish even more safe. Therefore I piced up a litte moss and some plants form the edge of the pond. I planted it ontop of a offcut board and laied it on the water with the plants hanging partly in the water. The fish was very interested in it. They look actually exited about it. I think they would gain from it if I introdused new things from time to time to them. Well, maybe goldfish don't have the ability to bordom, but who knows.
I went to the pet shop and bought a rapid growing plant to.
Mesured water today. It looks good, and I'm confident that all 4 of them will have an exelent winter. :D
At last! Skuggan is together with the others!
I had a plan: I lay down a bucket hoping for the fish to swim inside and catch him with a landing net. Great plan actually. Today Skuggan swimed into the bucket, I'd put the landing net in front of it, tilted the bucket and Skuggan kept himself inside. I didn't even need to stress him by lifting him with the net. I hang the bucket in the tank until the water inside it had the same temparatur as the tank water before letting him in. All together ready for the water. It feel so good!
I wonder if I should return the heater to the shop or ceep it in case of future needs...
Skuggan is 8 cm by now.
Caught Apelsin today. He was sceard, the poor thing. Skuggan is left alone in the pond. It do not feel good.. I'll try again tomorrow. The temp has dropped to below 10 centigrades, and with that temp goldfishes gets passive and are not intrested in food. They get passive and harder to catch. Maybe I will buy a heather tomorrow to get Skuggan more active. He is alone and can't survive the winter in the pond.
Apelsin 9 cm long now.
Blixten and Normann has moved into the indoor tank today. I seems like they are ok and that the move hasn't sceard them too much. I didn't manage to catch Skuggan and Apelsin today so I'll try again tomorrow morning when the water is colder. In the day the temparatur is 14 centigrades and I expect it to be down to 8 during the night. When its below 10 degree the fish's less active and I guess the will stay in the bucket laying in the pond as they have done the last few days.
Normann measured 13 cm, and Blixten 9 cm.
My wife and have filled the tank today. It's standing on a table with cut off leggs så it is half a meter above the floor. We have placed stones where the fish can hide away beteen and under and the two plants from the pond, I took aprox 25 litre from it and mounted the filter pump. It will run for a week and then it's ready to recive teh fish.
Tested water in the tank and the tap. It looks good.
My wife came home from work yesterday with a big plastic container perfect for my use! I have wased it thouroughly.
Definitly the know my voice, it calms them and they are gathering and comming towards me and waiting for food. I simply loves 'em. The neighbours must think I'm crasy talking to the pond from my chair beside it!
Watertast: Even more Chloride in the water then last time. If it rises more I have to treat the pond to lower the level of it. Where *does* it come from?
I've decided that the fish will have to stay inside the house this winter. The will probably die in the pond when it's getting cold uotside. The pond is only 30 cm deep and will freeze to the botton. So I must buy a container of some short, interior and filter. They need to have oxsygen added to the water, so that must be handled. Therefore I bought a filter pump which adds air bubbles into the water. I'm running the filter in the pond a little to try to establish bacterias in it. The right sort of bacterias transforms nitrit/nitrat to a less toxic substanses. I think I'll leave the filter in the pond until the container in the basment is ready. Also I bought two small plants to the tank, so they as well have to wait in the pond.
I beleve the are resonding to my voice! The gets a little scared when thay sees movements on land untill I sey hey, hay, as I usually do, and it seems to calm them (am I fantasizing?). Well, I guess that's good with the cats and seagulls around here.
Water quality tested again. Good result but the Chorid wich is a little high. Chlorid is usually in the tap water and not in water from our well from which we get the pond water. Strange.
I picked up the ordered fish today! One yellow (Gula Blixten) and one in red, white, blue and black (Normann).
I ordered to more fish from the petshop today. One yellow common goldfish and a multi colored goldfish (Shubunkin). Exiting!
Målt vannkvaliteten. Bra resultat! Se dam_data.ods
Fiskene svømmer rundt og ser ut til å trives og ha det bra. :-D
Apelsin and Skuggan swims around eating and seems to have a good life. But I needed to check the quality in the water to see if the enviroment for the is good. The result turns out to be very good. I have the data in a page her.
Today I visited the local petshop. They have aquariums with fishes for sale, and suddently I own tow fishes. I have a small pond in the garden so with a little food now and then they should be fine, I think. Both are 4 cm veiltaled goldfish even though they look very different. They are named Apelsin and Skuggan. More of these elseware i the capsule.
