After a busy long week, I left early today. The team gave me dirty looks for leaving them, but something was in my eye. I have been searching in the mirror for two hours, sweating. Violently rubbing is the only way to feel relief from the sandpaper under my eyelids. I pinched a hair in my eye and pulled. It was stuck. A sharp, stabbing pain shot into the back of my head. I trimmed the hair as closely as I could using nail clippers. In an instant, it felt as if I was staring into the sun, while a train horn went off next to me, and I passed out.
When I woke up, the room was dark and blurry. Long jet black hair was running down my face. This can't be mine, mine is blonde. I could run my fingers through it, from my eyes to my thumping chest. I gripped both hands on it and pulled with all my strength. My screams should have alerted the neighbors. Nobody came. Throughout the day the room grew darker and I thought I could hear someone breathing in the room. The tears were absorbed by the oily dark strands of hair. I'm still unsure if this is a nightmare or a curse.
It is unknown how much time has passed between passing out in pain, and pulling out my eyes. Whispers have turned into taunts. I am sure someone is here with me, even if I can't see or touch them. My life was good, and I was a good person. This punishment does not make sense. I'm done pulling. The hair keeps coming out after my useless attempts, and my eyes are entangled, lost, down the rope of hair. I lie on the floor in the soft bed made of tears and blood-soaked hair. I can feel something tickle the back of my throat. Something giggles from the bed.
