Went to Checkpoint Charlie today. I was 10 years old when the wall fell but I remember it well. I felt a really strong sense of melancholy and sadness looking at the pieces of the wall being sold: the world felt so much different back then, like I could actually feel optimistic for the future. It's a mix of innocence lost and the current political events now making me so jaded and sad.

@n2qfd @danrl maybe there will still be a chance to experience that sense of optimism again in our life. It is anyway good to see what *can* happen when we move in the right direction. · 1 month ago

I'm with you, I was 11. My uncle was stationed in Germany and still smuggling kosher goods into the CZ. The world was suddenly changing and it seemed in such an upward way. The rust belt was reaching high tide and receeding slightly where I lived. I felt better in 2000 when I was a student in Prague and had seen how thing were going but it was the tail end of that bubble there. Keep looking for positives. · 1 month ago

oh yeah, growing up in west germany near the border i remember the 90s when suddenly we all felt like the world is only going to get better from here on. some called it the end of history. it all broke down on 9/11 which catapulted me back to reality. at least we had techno and the love parades, though. fucking great time to be alive. · 1 month ago
