@edanosborne I didn't have much luck with Waydroid on the OG Pinephone. Honestly cant remember if I tried it on the OP6T; maybe I should give it a crack again as I like the concept and although mileage will vary I'd rather not have to have a seperate Android device. If I got it working though I think I'd have to look at building a custom image for Waydroid minus all the phone, SMS/MMS, email and camera/photo stuff (I assume removing the contact stuff would break alot of apps). · 10 months ago

@drh3xx Yeah, I also live in the UK. I imagine I could use Waydroid to get a few essential apps running on PureOS, though.

In the mean time, I'm hoping to get a de-Googled Fairphone or a Murena at some point. · 10 months ago

@drh3xx I'm particularly excited to try out PostmarketOS and sxmo! I intend to keep my current android phone as a backup device, since I need reliable telephony for things like calling my doctors and making emergency calls. But luckily I've managed to avoid the "everything is an app" craze, so I don't really rely on my phone for much beyond that. That's part of the reason I decided to get a Linux phone, since I'm in a good position to be an early adopter. · 10 months ago

@mathpunk excited for you. It seems like a step in the right direction from the OG PinePhone which performed just well enough. Hopefully some of the hardware issues present in the original have been sorted with the PP Pro. What distro are you planning on running with it? Would be interested to hear what current battery life , thermals and general performance are like once you've had it a while. · 10 months ago

@edanosborne me too. I'm running PostmarketOS PHOSH on an OnePlus 6T as my daily driver which performs well but hardware support still has some way to go. The modem doesn't currently wake the system on an inbound call or SMS for example. Luckily I'm not all that popular, LOL. One of the post hardware support issues facing mobile Linux is API access though and it's not a small issue. In the UK atleast there is a big push for using apps for car parks, ordering in pubs and restaurants, government interactions ("make tax digital" for example) etc... without free access to those kinds of APIs we're going to have fallback Android devices for a while unfortunately. · 10 months ago
