Binary Golf Grand Prix 5 starts this Friday!

https://binary.golf/

The Binary Golf Grand Prix (BGGP) is a competition where folks make binary programs that fit specific criteria while also trying to make the binary programs as small as possible. The 5th Grand Prix begins this Friday!

BGGP1 (2020) had the theme of Palindrome, where the binary file needed to be a binary palindrome, so if you reversed all of the bits of the program, it would be the same program and still function. In order to prevent the user from making a program and just appending the same binary mirror flipped to the end of the program, greater than 50% of the binary needed to execute.

BGGP2 (2021) had the theme of Polyglot, where the binary file needed to be multiple valid formats at the same time. For example, an HTML file that's also an NES ROM that's also a ZIP file all at the same time.

BGGP3 (2022) had the theme of Crash, where the binary file needed to crash a specific program, like a ROM that crashes an emulator or a video that crashes VLC.

BGGP4 (2023) had the theme of Replicate, where the binary file, when executed, needed to create a copy of itself. For instance, a binary file that creates a new file that is an exact copy of the binary file.

The theme of BGGP5 hasn't been announced yet, but will be announced on Friday. These events tend to run until the end of August or sometime in September.
