This document is a collection of information about NeutronBSD, a FreeBSD-based OS that does not exist outside of my imagination. I'm writing things down for later when I may or may not give it a try to work towards making some of this real.
There are two reasons for me chosing this name:
1) It fits well with "Neunix", the name of my new gemlog (which involves a bilingual pun on "neu" which is both "new" in German and happens to sound like that if pronounced the English way. So it's really close to "new Unix".
2) It's tipping my head to a little known project called ElectroBSD. Its author has been doing some interesting things with FreeBSD - and while that project's focus is different, he actually did what I intend to do somewhen in the future: Take FreeBSD and modify it to better suit my needs and prejudices. At the same time I'm making a statement of disapproving said project; I dislike the strong display of anti police venom as well as the malice towards HardenedBSD (another great project). Just add in an "n" to ElectroBSD and it'll sound like it's negatively charged. I'm not going for what I think would be a positive charge, I'm more interested in staying neutral towards various groups (technology should not be on any "side"). Hence "NeutronBSD".
There are two things that make me think a project like this could be worthwhile:
1) Forking FreeBSD and trying to mess with stuff is definitely a great way to get your hands dirty. There's no way to gain better knowledge about your system than starting to modify it, to experience breakage, fix things again, etc.
2) If it _were_ to succeed... Well, I'd end up with an OS that would be even more to my liking! :)
