emergency misfin roll call — Hello, I call on this roll call in the effort of making sure all systems are still operational in terms of the Hashnix misfin server. Recently I had helped a user delete their account, though in doing so I noticed a strange glitch occured between misfin and the directories for gemboxes and identities. After resetting the server, my account's gembox had been wiped. I must post this now in the interest of all users to make sure that hasn't happened across the board....

Vanity — After a busy long week, I left early today. The team gave me dirty looks for leaving them, but something was in my eye. I have been searching in the mirror for two hours, sweating. Violently rubbing is the only way to feel relief from the sandpaper under my eyelids. I pinched a hair in my eye and pulled. It was stuck. A sharp, stabbing pain shot into the back of my head. I trimmed the hair as closely as I could using nail clippers. In an instant, it felt as if I was staring into the...

Ah, the end of summer. Enjoying a warm evening sitting outside on the patio, thinking about Titan improvements for Lagrange. I had a few moments earlier to get started on the ";edit" parameter, although it was slow-going. The vacation has purged my mental models.

reading list! because, why not? ~ “the myth of sisyphus” by Albert Camus ~ “the third Reich” by Roberto Bolaño ~ “the romantic dogs” by Roberto Bolaño ~ “the stranger” by Albert Camus ~ “kallokain” by Karin Boye ~ “the dangers of smoking in bed” by Mariana Enriquez ~ “la familia” by Sara Mesa ~ “suicides in Taiwan” (this one includes a text by Qiu Miaojin, one of my favorite writers- if anyone has somewhere where I can find it I would appreciate it a lot..) ~ “cauterio” by Lucía Lijtmaer

Debian upgrade...to bullseye — Today I learned there hasn't been security updates for buster since June 😮 so I urgently upgraded my server, which was a bit risky to do in the evening - I might have ended up all night trying to fix it... Main thing I was worried about was my mail server (dovecot + postfix), as that's not stuff I know off the top of my head, but thankfully that part of the setup had no issues ! My php websites didn't come back - but all I had to do was install lib-apache2-mod-...

I was just about to post to s/Meta because I tried and failed to add a new certificate to my BBS account. The page accepts my user-name, but keeps re-asking for my password, as if the user-name or password were incorrect. When I tried to create the post, I discovered another problem: Entering the ‘:’ command to get the Titan form does't work; I get the response “Input Required”. At the last second, I thought to try the same in Lagrange, and both actions succeeded. It seems like I've...

@skyjake I'm getting linker issues when I run buildtui.sh on Devuan Linux immediately after [100%] Linking C Shared library libsealcurses.so has been output. libncursesw.a(lib_set_term.o) warning relocation against `COLORS` in read-only section `.text` and libncursesw.a(lib_addch.o) relocation R_X86_64_PC32 against symbol `TABSIZE` cannot be used when making a shared object; recompile with -fPIC. I don't suppose you could guide me to a fix? Not raised in issues as unsure if its a me or...

Following on from random2934 throwing a project idea out there. I think something that might be useful to folks is if someone was able to host a DynDNS service which used a periodic gemini request with an identity cert to update IPs for registered domains associated with that cert. Registration (including association of the identity) and management of domains and associated RR would be fairly doable via a gemini interface. Nice easy: setup of the service and add the domain(s) you intend to...

I recently tried out what a short story might look like if it were written by an AI. Together with the children, I entered a few ideas that came to mind. Then we tweaked it a few more times. We could smile about it. But the whole thing is also kind of flat. We wanted to make a sequel, made a nice plot and the kids came up with some great ideas. Somehow it seemed to me that we didn't need the AI anymore, the story was already written. ... I'll have to think about that. Greetings

i have this feeling about lowtech (not permacomputing) that gcc is not lowtech. however, tcc is. we feel that c is lowtech, because it has a small syntax and it is possible to write efficient code with it, but we forget that the c we use has lots of corporate investments, lots of language extensions, and the compiler compiles in hours. tcc is lowtech, because it supports standard c without extensions and it is easy to compile it. however, it is not possible to compile linux kernes with tcc....

Trying to find proof of concept code for CVE-2024-7441, an alleged remote stack overflow on Vivotek cameras. All the advisories claim there is public exploit code, but I cannot find it anywhere. I'm trying to find it for a work thing. Anybody have any leads? The closest I've found is a locked Notion doc.
