I use spacemacs at work, but know almost nothing about emacs. I use evil mode and do not really get most of the emacs thing. It feels slow to me and crashes sometimes... buuuut does have some cool features. I like being able to have a terminal in an editor window, for one.

For awhile I used spacevim too, but I have mostly switched over to vanilla vim with no plugins (beyond syntax plugins). I rolled my own config and have been pretty happy with it. It isnt perfect, but it does what I need it to do, is ridiculously stable, and is really really fast and responsive.

Fast forward to today where I randomly try `:terminal` in vim. Finding that that works has been really nice. Knowing that I can have it swallow the window I am in or split in any direction is also nice. Now I can use Bombadillo or visit a pubnix while working on code. I'm sure this has been around for awhile and I just never thought to look... but this is an exciting find. `:help terminal` was very helpful (as the vim docs almost always are).
