Books I've Been Reading

I'm a bit of a reader - with many strange complexes built up over the years.

The main one being that I feel guilty when reading fiction, as if the time is better spent learning something useful.

Well, I've started to change that over the last year or so. There is much to learn from fiction, too. Even if that is, ultimately, how to relax!

Mick Heron

I'm really enjoying Mick Heron's 'Jackson Lamb' series. Based around an annexed department of MI5 full of muck-ups, it's a totally different pace to normal espionage novels.

Heron doesn't rush anything. He takes the time to develop characters and give depth to the story. Highly recommended!

The Cold War - John Lewis Gaddis

This guy's politics are quite far from my own, and the book is obviously written from the victor's side, but this is a really accessible introduction to how the cold war came about and played out.

Embarrassingly, as a Brit, I didn't know an awful lot about events like the Korean War. It's peaked my interest in that part of the 20th century, for sure. A medium-level recommendation.
