Most civilisation is based on cowardice. It's so easy to civilize by teaching cowardice. You water down the standards which would lead to bravery. You restrain the will. You regulate the appetites. You fence in the horizons. You make a law for every movement. You deny the existence of chaos. You teach even the children to breathe slowly. You tame.
― Frank Herbert, God Emperor of Dune
I'm ~w3bk3rn3l or ~ʍ3pĸ3ʁu3ɼ. I work and live in a sunny (well, not so sunny as b4) country.
I worked for 25 years in the software industry. I am currently a communications advisor for the local government.
Even before having access to the Internet, I remember accessing usenet groups and email account through local BBS. Then, in the early 90s, I was fascinated by the Internet and its possibilities (e-mail, gopher, www, etc.). I've been into communications since 1979, using my transceivers to communicate with the whole world. In amateur radio, since the 70's we have been using data protocols like AX.25 to create BBS and transfer files. And we continue to use it.
My first linux distro was Mandrake (OpenMandriva's inspiration). I enjoyed compiling the kernel to my needs. So, my nickname [webkernel alias w3bk3rn3l] is inspired in the old times of web and kernel compilation. Today, I like to test several distros (mainly Arch based), although my daily work is done with a Macbook (sorry!).
I recently discovered the Gemini project and went back to the magic of simple content and objectivity. It may seem anachronistic, but having the freedom to choose the best method of building a community is synonymous with freedom. That's what the Internet is about.
