THE TEAGASC Certificate in farming known to all as the Green Cert is
the recognised qualification for a career as a farmer in Ireland.
Together with the educational knowledge gained on a Green Cert course,
there are benefits from a taxation angle as well as priority access and
top-ups with State and EU schemes.
Typically a locally based Green Cert course runs on a part-time basis
with the course featuring a blended form of learning, encompassing both
formal lectures /classes and on-farm based training. These locally
based part-time courses normally commence in September / October with
the aim of completion in a time frame of 18 / 24 months.
The duration of the course depends entirely on the intensity with which
it is run. Students on part-time Green Cert courses follow a modular
based programme and most modules in the first half of the course are
split 50 / 50 between lectures and on-farm practicals.
Teagasc in the Kerry/Limerick Advisory and Education region are pleased
to announce the commencement of a part-time Green Cert course this
September.
The lectures / classes element will be based in our training centre at
Teagasc Newcastle-West with the on-farm training taking place at
Salesian Agricultural College, Pallaskenry.
For prospective students and their parents / guardians / spouses /
partners an information meeting will take place at the Teagasc office,
Newcastle West on Thursday, August 22 at 7pm.

On that evening Teagasc education staff will outline the full details
of the course to interested parties. For anyone thinking of attaining
the Green Cert by means of a part-time course, then this is an ideal
opportunity to inform yourself on this option in a local setting.
A locally based Green Cert course will always highlight local farming
practices and this feature ensures that the course is structured to the
needs of prospective students from Limerick and North Kerry. So come
along on Thursday evening, August 22 at 7pm to our Teagasc
Newcastle-West office for full course details and information.
The Teagasc Office Newcastle-West is located at Gortboy, Newcastle West
