It's been a long time since I used Flounder!
I finished work early today because I'm sick, although it's a pretty vague sickness. I'm hoping that it's just some sort of mild food poisoning from the takeout I ate last night. Earlier today I felt very unwell mentally too, but I think an irritated stomach largely accounts for it.
This evening for dinner I made spiced chickpeas and turmeric rice, a very quick and easy dish that I thought might be relatively easy to digest and good for my stomach. Feeling mentally unwell too, not just physically, is a little frustrating, but I'm sure I'll feel better after some rest.
Lately I've been trying to read regularly again after a month or so of reading very little. I'm dipping into and out of quite a few different books, including:
- Ray Monk's biography of Wittgenstein (re-read)
- 'Must We Mean What We Say?' by Stanley Cavell
- 'The Things We've Seen' by Augustin Fernandez Mallo
- 'The Idiot' by Dostoevsky
I also read a little bit of some interviews with Derrida but viscerally disliked everything he said. I talked to a friend about it and he made some very interesting connections to Plato's 'Sophist', so I ordered a copy of his dialogues and will read that one soon.
I finally worked up the nerve to come out to the few remaining friends of mine that I hadn't told I'm trans. As far as I'm aware, I don't have any friends left that I need to use my deadname with. That's surely a great relief, even if I'm honestly not feeling very relieved yet. I probably just need to keep making progress; the immediate next step is securing an estrogen prescription.
