After a long day driving we're up near Bungendore in NSW staying with my parents. They're on a small rural block, big garden, and for over ten years dad has had a bird feeder table just outside the kitchen doors where he puts out scraps for the magpies[1] and ravens[2], then watches as the blue wrens[3] and scrubwrens[4] come in quietly for what's left. Not any more. The Indian mynas[5] have spread from Canberra and settled in and now there's no other birdlife to be seen, so along with starting to build traps for them he's stopped putting out feed
