2021/1128/1500 — forest

A long ride this afternoon, out along the Dandenong creek trail to the base of the Dandenongs, then up through the bush to pop out in tourist town. Home was much the same, except the downhill section a ludicrously steep track that was almost unrideable, and a slight variation of paths roads and trails to take me back down to Jells park and home along Scotchmans creek.

On the ride out I passed Knox lake, there's a local campaign to save it from development and keep it as a semi-wild haven. Two passers by were standing alongside the path tipping five or more loaves of bread over the fence to "feed the ducks" ... and the rats, and the pigeons. Not quite the best wildlife feed imaginable. Glancing around all I could see were a few Black ducks[1], there's supposedly much more in there but I didn't slow down or hang around enough to see

Up in the Dandenongs; lots of families of Kookaburras[2], not quite in full laugh, mostly just squabbling and chortling to each other in the low branches and down on the ground, and a few White cockies[3] flying over screeching, mostly heard and not seen. I could hear other birds up in the trees, and down in the scrub, including one interesting call that I couldn't place… but sadly I've got no idea who made them
