A family walk around the suburb this morning, out for a coffee and meander back through assorted streets looking in gardens and parks. We managed to chose a street in Murrumbeena with a few well established bush gardens, all in flower with bottlebrushes and grevillea at the moment. The power lines on the other side of the street were lined with a shrieking mob of Rainbow lorikeets[1], I'm not sure if they were waiting for us to move away from the blossom so they could come down, or if they'd flown up from some other flowering gums nearby.
Then across to the north side of the railway line, passing under the Murrumbeena section of skyrail and around to the south end of Boyd park to check up on the locals… yes, quietly tucked up on a branch against the trunk, up above the scout hall, a pair of Tawny frogmouths[2] busy pretending that they're not there. I wonder how successful their nest was in the past few weeks given all the wind and storms?
