A cold day, winter is here. Spent most of the day inside and saw next to nothing of note on my hour of a bike ride. Putting some rubbish in the bin outside after dinner I looked up at the unmistakable large leathery wingspan flapped past overhead -- a Grey-headed flying fox[1] (fruitbat) making its way back towards the city. Probably roosting along the Yarra upstream from Richmond. A decade or so ago there was a huge roost of them in the botanic gardens and we'd see them most summer & autumn evenings heading out just after sunset to the suburbs to raid the fruit trees. Now that they've been relocated, and I suspect the numbers reduced, there are far fewer seen
