2021/0405/1600 -- otways

Today was a big day out on the bike, inland from Lorne up and through the Otways to Barwon Downs, Forrest, then back through the forest to Wye River and to Lorne along the Great Ocean Road. Coastal holiday town, misty forest, cattle farms, more forest and coast. Strangely, I don't think I really saw much of interest during the day... or maybe I was paying too much attention to my riding.

Lots of Crimson rosellas[1] in the morning, and a greeting from a trio of Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoo[2] as I got to Barwon Downs while Little Corellas[3] and Sulphur-crested cockatoo[4] screeched around near the footy ground. On the ride down through the Otways towards the coast I was surrounded by small birds flitting back and forth, but none close enough or still enough to be recognised, certainly not in the state of mind I was in by that time of the day. There was one gorgeous dark wallaby feeding by the side of the road, almost black, with chestnutty hints to the fur -- I'm convinced that seeing these wallabies slink off into the undergrowth in the Otway mist has triggered more than a few of the “Otway panther” reports.
