The long, checkered history of the ncurses license

What a shitshow!

http://ftp.invisible-island.net/ncurses/ncurses-license.html

With all the hoopla of the holidays, and a Covid scare in my family (turned out to be a stomach virus of some sort), I haven't been able to do much beyond reading about minimalist technologies. From the suckless website jumped over to invisible-island to read the history of ncurses, just out of curiosity...

Thomas Dickey shows amazing restraint, fixing bugs year after year and playing along with authoritarian assholes until he finally exhausts them. Wow. In my interactions with bug-generating napoleons of open-source projects, I last literally days before telling them to fuck off and either walk away or just use their code as I please, completely disregarding their commands (my later projects are pure research anyway)...

Check it out - it makes some interesting reading...

And happy new year, everyone.
