2023 review and 2024 planning

Posted on 2024-01-08

It's that time of the year again, so first, I'm wishing everyone a healthy and happy year 2024!

This year, this "status" post will stay short and to the point :)

What about 2023

Writings

I'd say usual pattern in term of writings, a lot more blog post in the first half of the year than in the 2nd:

Same thing on my gemlog:

It is interesting to see that after / during summer, I lose either interest or energy to write… Usually September and October are buty months in term of work and personal life, which might explain why… But I'm going to try to not fall into this trap this year… But we'll see :).

Development

2023 was a year where I didn't code too much. Neither on gemini related software (eg: [GTL], [Discogem], …) or the other projects I have plan for (eg: [walgot])… My free time has been a lot more focused on my homelab as I redid it from scratch after moving to the south of France.

Homelab

A lot happened in 2023, having move out of Paris to the south of France, I decided not to replug my homelab as is but to use this occasion to redo it entirely. I still need to write article about this, but I basically rebase everything on a proxmox server (soon to be cluster). Expect many blog posts about my setup in the comming weeks / months :).

Gemini

Weirdly, at the same time my energy level went to low to write on my blog and gemlog, at the same time I lost focus of the Gemini space. I think I didn't open a gemini browser from October to December. That's really a shame and need to change that (already started). Not sure why though, because gemini is neither energy nor time consuming, so I'm not even sure of the reason of why I stopped browsing gemini…

So for 2024?

Write more

A recurrent topic for me, I always want to write more and fail to do so. I don't feel bad about it though because it isn't either a "life goal". I wish to write a lot more, but at the same time I don't want to force myself, so if I don't feel like it, I'm ok not achieving this goal of writing more. At least for now…

Couple of topics I have in mind:

I also have a few changes in mind for this blog, some that I already did (like the contact page and the dedicated [About page] that contains my public links). I'll probably write more about it when this has changed enough :).

About page

Gemini revival

I started again browsing Antenna / Cosmos for the past week and found interesting post there. I'm still not 100% back and that's also a reason why I'm writing this post on my blog and not on my gemlog this year. But I want to change this.

I also have a nice idea to make the tinylog format easier for people to participate and discover others, with a "centralized" but community alternative to using your own tool like GTL. But for that I need to find my motivation about gemini again.

Fediverse

I want to change a bit how I use the fediverse and how I post things there. Not going to say more on this as I'm still thinking about it, but I want to explore more the fact that I have my own instance and can do more with it.

I've been running a [GoToSocial] instance for a bit more than a year and I really love how simple and light it is. Updates are ultra boring and fast (which is perfect). Hopefully I'll write a bit more about this soon.

GoToSocial

Conclusion

We never know what the future holds for us, so I'm not making any promises or plan, but I still hope 2024 brings all of us a lot of joy and happiness.
