I've been thinking abour the small club based sprints lately. While it wasn't so much a thing when I was younger in the hobby I think it's really grown on me.
Working, not being able to afford the radio set up of our parents, we're time and cash strapped and having these QRP or otherwise CW events that can bracket for QRP and lighter equipment footprints really keeps us going. I can squeeze in an hour to play radio, and lots of soapbox comments reflect the same, "had to leave early to go to bed for work but great time." Small but honest turn outs, sure there's a few die hard point chasers but nearly all the QSO's I had were in a comfortable speed. Not slow CW but not abofe the teens for WPM speed.

When I was first starting out all contesting was just a blight on the band. RTTY can still feel that way... And I was only intrested in that individual who wanted the stock QSO which is pretty nice and I still enjoy that. But I've also come to see the beauty in the short contest exchange. It's still finding the magic of using a natural and unpredictable system to reach someone else trying to do the same.
