Well I've learnt (and am still learning) a lot in this course. Things are getting more and more complex and I haven't had enough time for practice BUT I'm happy to keep on pushing as hard as I can. I'd rather play and improve a little than give up because I can't study as much as I'd like to.
I'm trying to expand my scales vocabulary with some modes from the melodic and harmonic minor that I haven't really used a lot: augmented ionian and lydian, lydian #2, dorian #4 and dorian b2. Once I have all these, I'll go with the locrian ones (with the exception of the altered, which I use extensively).
This new vocabulary is linked to a better understanding and knowledge of the fretboard. I try to study everything in the five positions, which is... cumbersome, but useful. BTW: the most I know about guitar playing, the most I hate the myth of being an instrument in which you can transpose everything easily.
As of technique... I think my picking is improving, but there are still some inconsistencies in some arpeggios. I don't really like a kind of "sweep" picking I randomly do, and I have to fight against it. Also: my left pinky is NOISY as hell, especially when working on the first string.
When it comes to improvise, well... there's a lot of work to be done. The main standards I'm playing over are Donna Lee, Giant Steps, Out of Nowhere, Night and Day and Peace by Horace Silver.
Let's see what I can achieve in the coming months!!
