The morning was a continuation of the search engine and then a battle of the browsers. I don't know what the hell is going on with Chrome and Firefox, but they are so bloated that they keep my system pegged to all tarnation, and I have a pretty strong system. 20G of memory goes to hell in a flash. I have finally settled on Skye for the moment. Apparently something is happening in their camp that is so exciting that they can't keep a website.
I also have Opera, and it keeps the load even lower with more features. Maybe later today I'll get some sites together now that I have the Cloud instance figured out.
I'm also very conflicted on the BBS thing. I want to help apam and be a good little sysop, but I'm taking this seriously. I've looked at several, and I've used Mystic in the most recent past. But my needs and desires led me to look at several others as well. I've checked out Synchronet, Renegade (which I used to operate along with Wildcat! and VBBS), and WWIV. I am leaning very heavily to WWIV, because their docs are awesome. I had considered a second invite-only BBS, and I may use Talisman for that one.
My problem with WWiV is that I can't get the fucking thing to compile for life, love, or money.
And I figured out why. The WWIV binaries are configured in ELF expecting a 64-bit x86, and the Oracle servers are aarch. No-go at this station. I sent it all to Digital Ocean, which is an x86, and all is well. Now it's time to map, plan, and customize. I'm partial to the fact that I can have text files on the main menu.
I have been playing around with building the Aleph website, and whilst setting up the existing subs and conferences, it hit me that Usenet is still a thing.
Got to work on some cool stuff today, and one issue demanded I take HeidiSQL for a joyride. It's pretty fugly on Linux. I also ended up working with MySQL Workbench as well.
Motherfuckers, this is not a drill.
For some reason, I misunderstood and thought that Oracle had eliminated Solaris as a developed OS. This is incorrect. I am in the process of setting up Solaris 11.4 right now.
