nintendo 3ds my beloved

played a little traumatarium demo, in as close to real hardware as possible (my trusty little hacked 3ds), it's quite nice!

traumatarium

i love how gbstudio lets us make new art for these "old" handhelds fairly simply (i haven't tried yet but i want to. eventually when i have time!). that's permacomputing too!

i can't wait for nds nostalgia to get going, because i've never even played on a real gameboy (only android emulators), but the pearly pink nintendo ds lite? that's the stuff. i sold mine to buy my 3ds when pokemon x and y came out, without ever having used the gameboy port (sadly). my black 3ds isn't as cool looking, but i think it's by far the best handheld, nay the best console, ever made. it can play any game from the first gameboy up until the 3ds itself! it has a touch screen! it has 3d no one ever really uses! it has three cameras! i love the 3ds and it's bonkers that it's been abandoned. i mean, sure, tech gets "obsolete" and all, but much like cassette and vinyl are still used for collector's stuff, i think we could have some new ds releases every once in a while. let's backport stuff or whatever! demakes!

imo the 3ds isn't even a competitor to the switch. the switch isn't really that portable, and i think its biggest draw is the console thing. the switch is more of a wii u 2: electric boogaloo where the nds follows on the footsteps of the gameboy. they can and should coexist. the only reasons consoles / handhelds get discontinued is because eventually everyone who'd ever want to buy one already did. isn't the nds one of the most sold handhelds ever? for good fucking reason! i'll die on this hill because i'm right!

anyway yeah i'll try making a gameboy walking sim gallery at some point.

update 29/05: i've found out about the game boy macro: a mod of the ds lite that removes the top screen, making use of the gba cartridge port at the bottom. that's such a clever way to keep devices with broken hinges functional. also i just <3 backwards compatibility
