In all honesty, I am tired of the modern web. I have seen the old web, too, before it became the primary game board of Monopoly. Back in the day, it was about sharing - sharing information and your interests. And to learn about new things. It wasn't fancy, it was even crude; Gemini is not fancy, either, but it is sleek. So, I do want to give it a try.
Is it? Just because change is necessary does not mean every change is for the better. Yes, change is inevitable, I am absolutely in line with this statement. However, we are conscious beings and can direct this change, specifically of things which we created for our use. Gemini is a new thing, don't you forget. It's just limited, adhering to the idea that less can be more. Gemini provides the means that I need to publish my ideas and thus provide them to some people who I hope will take the time and be interested to hear about them - no more and no less. And this is, in my experience, how to get something done: With a tool made for the task. Focus on what actually matters. A hammer does not need Bluetooth.
Gemini provides this text to you, and in a secure way, encrypted by TLS. It does little more, but that it does well. There is no adds, no monetarization of the Gemini space plausibly imaginable. All you'll ever find here, in all likelyness, are people like me who want to share their ideas with you. And this is so very simple, you won't need any new fancy device to travel this part of the internet. Not even a fast connection - these tiny little Gemtext-files will still load almost instantaneously. And most Gemini-browsers will provide you with the means to subscribe to my capsule, so you will be kept up to date on changes and new posts. There is actually a lot of convenience in this simplicity.
Also this simplicity does motivate me to just write. To write is comfortable with such simple means, and I feel like this is a space were writing is still be done and appreciated. And I love writing.
Maybe I will expand on these arguments still in a future post "Why Gemini?".
Anyways - this is a work in progress. I will continue it as I have the time, and I hope you will have the time to enjoy what I present to you.
I have many of those. Let's think about them!
