Exploding with Life

2023-09-08

I recently came across the YouTube channel of Beau Miles, specifically the video where he eats his bodyweight in beans before running a marathon:

The Human Bean - Beau Miles

After watching a few more of his videos it became apparent that this guy is not just teeming with life, but exploding with life. His feats are physically demanding, his ideas are romantic and wild, he is quick and witty, and seems to carry a lot of positive energy wherever he goes. He always delivers some beautiful truth about life in a eloquent or down-to-earth way, or at the very least identifies something funny about the human condition. I realize some of what he does is for the camera, but it's hard to imagine him being a much different off-camera.

I want to be friends with this guy. In fact, I want to be just like him. If I got the chance to hang out with Beau for a day, he'd say I was quite boring: I don't feel witty or bursting with crazy ideas that I should do just for the hell of it and I'm certainly not achieving any notable physical feats.

What's holding me back from exploding with life? I'd really like to start changing things up and getting uncomfortable to find out. I think a decade of chasing money and a weird "career" has made me dull and weak.

Here's some changes I'd like to make, or "goals" if you will. I'm writing them down today so that I can refer back to them periodically to see if I'm on track.

Today was a good start: we butchered our first quail.
