What I deal with at work

You want to know what I deal with in the library on the daily? Here's an example; happened about 20 minutes ago.

On the phones. A patron calls, he says, "What can you tell me about Geneva watches?" I'm like, "What do you want to know?" He says he has a watch, it says Geneva on it, front and back.

I ask him if there's a serial number or model number or anything, he says he can't see it b/c he's not wearing his glasses. He does not go to get them.

I look up Geneva, find they make *many* MANY watches, and tell him this. He doesn't seem to understand that whatever information I can give him is behind more information, which he must first give to me.

I offer to direct him to a local watch repair shop, explaining that they'd probably know much more by looking at it than I could over the phone. He declines. He just wants to know the price range.

I dutifully type "Geneva watches" into Google. Click Shopping. Scan prices. As I thought, they range from $8 to over $2000. On page 1.

I tell him this. He says, "Wow, that's quite a price range." I die inside.

Finally he hangs up, I can only assume unsatisfied. But who knows. Maybe he got what he needed.
