I think i am the worst student that m15o ever had... He is friendly inviting to write him an email and to ask whatever... but im always stuck at the start, stopped by the basic things. And i hesitate to login to the IRC and expose my stupidity:
how do i start an executable file in a terminal?
There are topicks i realy do have to catch up with. And im aware of several steps, but what if i know (or imagine to know!?) whats the fourth, but never make the second one?
A text editor is the tool i will use and i have to master if i want to be able to moove and inter-act in the realm of computers and networking. Bitters is the text editor i am going to learn to use. Then i want to understand how it is working. Through this process i think i will have more insight into what open source is and how to build software from source code.
The manual tels me i need SDL2 (a library for providing low level access to audio, keyboard, mouse...). I follow the wiki of libsdl.org, get the git clone and follow the short instructions. Lots of magic happens. I can even have some tea while the downloaded content is being installed. Success!
And even shorter instructions. To get the source code to my computer i use the:
git clone https://git.sr.ht/~m15o/bitters
Then i have to create a bin directory (mkdir bin). But! First i have to cd into the bitters deirectory. Ha. For a person skilled in driving, you dont need to mention that when waiting at the crossing you have to change to the first gear, to be able to start driving... But i still do need to remind myself of the basics.
The ./build.sh made its magic and thats it.
| bitters | start bitters | run bitters | ./bitters |
error: which file?
After some more tea in my vacuum a spark of reason happens:
which file? = newfile | ./bitters newfile
Ha. Here we are. I created a "new disk" that i named "newfile"
