A Personal Bullet Point Journal
Week of Jan 4, 2021
[Content Warning: brief mentions of food, alcohol, chronic illness. U.S. politics, negative mental health]
- I did end up going outside a day after the big snow. I think it was Sunday night that the weather was described as 'freezing fog'. I went for a walk and took some Rural Cyberpunk-aesthetic photos with all the streetlights of various unmatched color temperatures glowing in the fog.
- I ended up getting sucked into GoT after having those first few episodes on in the background. I binged it very heavily for the remaining days of the vacation as some kind of coping mechanism. Nearly a season-per-day. It's kept me away from binge-drinking. It felt appropriately moody to watch during the freezing fog.
- First day back to work on Tuesday; I extended my holiday vacation into Monday cuz I knew I'd need just a bit more time to unwind from 'the holidays'. Still wasn't ready, but just kinda settled back in.
- Just for posterity: on Wednesday there was an attempted coup by right-wing fascists at the U.S. Capitol. It was one of the first things I encountered when I woke up, kind of on accident. My reaction was to just kind of dissociate, and the remainder of the week is a blur of barely-getting-by.
- First time getting groceries in nearly two weeks on Saturday. My dad got me wireless earbuds for the holidays, and I tried them out for the first time during the trip. My previous wired pair wore out after two years of jangling around in my pocket. I wish I knew how to fix them, cuz I'm pretty sure it's just a loose connection at the plug. But I do like the wireless; it feels oddly liberating not to have the wire hanging as I check my grocery list. I watched 'juliaplaysgroove' during my bus ride. She's a killer funky bassist. I listened to Disasterpeace's 'Rise of the Obsidian Interstellar' at the grocery store, which made shopping feel like a silly epic journey.
- My friend and former roommate invited me to go hiking on Sunday. I didn't feel mentally or physically capable of it, but I forced myself to accept because: human contact and exercise. They came down with a cold though, so we'll go some other time.
- Just a hint of mental clarity and energy on Sunday. Made a simple 'rustic' bread recipe that didn't need proving. Can't find any good bread at the market, motivated to get into making it instead. Depending on pandemic status in the spring, I am looking forward to the local farmer's market. I've had a very limited diet for nearly a decade due to some mysterious chronic G.I. issues that have gone undiagnosed. I've only recently been able to expand my diet and I'm excited to pick up ingredients from local farmers.
- Oh and I made my favorite red lentil stew. So I'll be able to feed myself next week. ayy.

'juliaplaysgroove' on YouTube. Ultra-groovy funky bass. She bookended her 2020 with Ariana Grande covers/interpretations, so here's 'Break Up With Your Girlfriend, I'm Bored', and 'Positions'.
