Gemini

View on my internet blog

I think Gemini seems like an old, simple version of the internet, even though it’s quite new. It’s as if we lost the ability to do a whole bunch of internet things and reverted back to the basics. Most of the sites on Gemini are blogs, which I find kind of boring unless it were someone I cared about. There are lots of links back to regular internet sites, and doesn’t that defeat the purpose? The purpose…it would be to make a smaller internet community, one that is much less busy. However, I think that makes it a bit boring. I liked at first that I could customize the style settings, but realized eventually I’d prefer to see each person’s own design choices for their gemlog, that would feel more natural to me. Of course, I am referring here to the graphical version. The command line version is even more boring and weird to navigate, I prefer clicking!

Reading other people’s opinions on Gemini, maybe I would appreciate it more had I been an internet user in the 90s. Alas, I was still an egg cell back then. One thing I liked were links to other gemlogs. I am a big fan of sharing lists of links that you think are cool, I like to share links and receive them too, so this is fun to look at. But as I said earlier, it seems weird to put html links on a gemlog.

Then again, I put one at the top of my gemlog anyway!
