Damn, the internet is BORING once you've deleted the psychologically addictive social media. I might actually have to study or read or go outside or something. /g

I actually feel the opposite. When I used corporate social media I would just check my stuff and move on. Now I feel like I spend more time finding more interesting things than I used to.

yep, deleted it years ago. this is my only social media these days. this, and station.

i also found this to be true. supposedly there is a plethora of other real stuff out there but it seems near impossible to find or dead

I’m coming to this realisation too, although I’m still learning to accept it. We have technology I could only dream of as a kid. Even in college (2000s) I was sure that we could have a software and online equivalent to everything that would be somehow “better”.

The reality for me now is that the “portion” sizes need to be kept small for it to actually be enjoyable. And somethings are better done offline. For example with pen and paper, I don’t have to unlock a phone as many times.

Crazy, isn't it?

Social media's always been addictive, but the extent of what that's done to us over the past 15 or so years won't be clear for a while.

It's one of the reasons I didn't get into the world of web development. It's been deliberately, specifically, scientifically designed to create systems which are habit forming and revenue centric.

I felt SO dirty learning about it in depth.

turned off the dopamine machine, gotta find another source

One can only hope to rewire brain circutry to draw dopamine from the thrill of exploration down here in geminispace

90% of the internet activity is bots.\

so its harder to find interesting stuff.

🍀 gritty · Feb 13 at 11:10:

I argue that BBS' notifications fill that dopamine hit.
