I've had a number of conversations with my grandfather about his past as a bulletin board system admin, and you can really tell how infrequently he gets talk about it by how much his eyes light up when he gets the chance. I really love hearing his stories, but I think he might be under the impression that there's no longer any space for such things on the internet... I'm hoping today to introduce him to gemini and this bulletin board, so I can re-invigorate some of that love for computing he has had hidden in the crawlspace of his mind for the past two decades. I hope he enjoys it! I'll probably show him either lagrange or a terminal client, depending on what he decides. Can't wait!

I would love to hear his thoughts! I hope you do a follow up after you talk to him.

I would really enjoy hearing the stories he relays to you. Also please let us know his reaction to Gemini. It is exciting to hear of other reactions to this protocol. In the early '90s I ran a wildcat BBS with 2 phone lines. It was a lot of fun. There are still a lot of BBS out there though most of them use telnet or ssh for connection instead of pots lines. Look up mysticbbs for one example of currently maintained software that a lot of sysops use.
