👋 B.A. in Theology. Gay religious liberal, anti-libertarian, anti-anarchist, anti-authoritarian, pro-meritocratic-representative-democracy. I believe in the concepts of responsibility and morality, freedom, free will, and religious pluralism, including freedom of religion (and "freedom from religion", which is literally the same thing). The mind is very clearly separate, but interconnected with, the physical body. I am heavily influenced by the philosophical line of Martin Buber, Abraham Heschel, and Martin Luther King Jr.

@userfxnet When you automatically assume that religions or religious peoples want theocracies, when you misuse religious terms like "Sharia Law", when you don't recognize that religion originated social justice issues, or that people like Dorothy Day were religious anarchists, that's when you've completely lost the plot. Stop being so damn ignorant and bigoted and learn some actual history for a change. You might as well start with a history of the Middle East and history of Islam class. People who do the above can no longer justify their bigotry. You people are shameful becuase you'd rather hate on everyone in your ignorance than take a damn college class or read a history book on the subject.

Getting tired of ending up in bastions of either right-wing wackoes or fringe left-wing wackoes that spew a bunch of convoluted "anti-" this and "anti-" that terms at things they hate without any sense of logical reasoning. What am I? I'm anti-apathetic, anti-militant, anti-radical, anti-selfish, anti-anti-establishmentarianalismicalantism. If I use the longest word, does that make my position stronger? Philosophers and writers don't speak that way - the parroting off a bunch of anti-crap. Those who care for their positions know how to explain them without being pretentious, and they certainly don't say one thing, then turn around and say a slightly different thing that means something totally different.

Hopefully it is clear that separation of Church and State is about separating the State from the Church, not separating religious values from the State. Why? Because atheists, agnostics, and the religious can all share similar values.

It is clear to me that many people here in the west just have no conception of what religion actually is. They've been blinded by the monoculture of Christianity that they cannot see past religion as Christian dogma, doctrine, and structure. In fact, that's *not* what religion is, and being atheist doesn't make you irreligious - they are completely different things. Religion is not about the divine or about the supernatural, or about dogma. To have such a restricted definition of religion excludes the wide variety of religious expression and religious history.

I went down the path of hard determinism before. It's a dangerous path. I haven't went so far as to reject all authority and all social conventions, because that's an even darker path that eventually leads to authoritarianism. Social Justice issues are religious issues. Morality, ethics, mercy, love - they are all religious issues. They all come out of religion. A State with no attachments to anything remotely related to religion is a state without justice, a state without morality and ethics, a state without mercy and love. Separation of Church and State is not disconnecting all religious issues from the state, it's about disconnecting religious DOGMA from the State. There's a difference (@willowf)

One more update to AuraGem Search: All links that request input from the user are now being indexed, and the prompt messages are being stored. Links in search results that request input will be labelled as an "Input Prompt". Having a way to filter these out during search is currently being worked on.

I have made some improvements to my crawler that will allow for some interesting ideas that I have planned for AuraGem Search. For at least 2 years now my search engine has had a way of detecting which pages can be used as gemsub feeds and which cannot. With slight changes to my crawler, it can now query from the db a list of all URLs that are considered feeds and crawl only internal links from those pages - meaning it will crawl only the non-cross-host links of those feed pages. This will allow me to have a constantly updated feed aggregator based on my search engine, with no censorship and no requirement of having to submit a url.

I'm starting the "Freedom of Protocols" Initiative. Read more here: gemini://auragem.letz.dev/devlog/20240305.gmi As part of this initiative, I will be working on getting my search engine to crawl Spartan, Nex, Guppy, and Gopher, as well as working on server and client software for all of these protocols.

Just got told by one of the operators in the Bitreich IRC to "stop spreading Gemini filth" because "Gemini was created so the hipsters can go there" and not make Gopher the next web. That was unexpected. I'm definitely staying far away from that community.

AuraGem Search now lets you search by contenttype (aka. mimetype). Just put "CONTENTTYPE:mimetype" in the search query, replacing mimetype with the type you want. You can also use the mimetypes page: gemini://auragem.letz.dev/search/mimetype/

AuraGem Search has now indexed 661,492 pages total, from 2,469 domains. I've just checked, and about 108,000 results from AuraGem Search make up the stackoverflow proxy at gmi.noulin.net, out of 661,492 pages total. Additionally, taz.de also only makes up about 196,000 pages. So that's still 357,492 pages, which is still more than Kennedy and TLGS, but not more than geminispace.info. I do not believe, however, that indexing these pages is cheating. They are still accessible from and useful to geminispace, particularly that stackoverflow proxy. I still count this as a bonus for AuraGem Search. You get the expansiveness of an index like that of geminispace.info with better results.

My search engine seems to be completely broken for some reason. I do not know why, but I believe the crawler is still working. I will try to fix it soon.

The Sefaria proxy at AuraGem has been broken for a very very long time. I think it's finally time I fixed that, lol. I will be working on it today and tomorrow.

AuraGem now has a gopher server! You can now play AuraGem Radio over gopher. The YT proxy will also work for browsers that support the ";" (video) gopher itemtype, although this is currently buggy in lagrange (I've submitted an issue to lagrange's repo about this). Lastly, AuraGem Search is also now available over gopher, but it will only search gemini capsules (for now). gopher://auragem.letz.dev/1/

I posted this study of gemini search engines a while ago that I thought was pretty interesting. Unfortunately AuraGem Search got worse since this was posted in 2022, mainly because I was doing speed optimizations. I will probably try to get its results back to what they used to be (a small change is needed to boost root pages mainly, iirc). Here's the study from 2022: gemini://auragem.letz.dev/devlog/20220807.gmi

I haven't ran the crawler for my search engine in a long while, so I've decided to run in now, and I'm keeping track of a new stat (how many times it encounters slow down responses) as per the discussion from Solderpunk's latest news post over at geminiprotocol.net

AuraGem has been switched over to a completely new server implementation! AuraGem's gemini and nex servers now run on my Smallnet Information Services (aka. SIS) server. While the project is not completely ready for an official release, it was ready enough to use in production for AuraGem. On the front-end, not much has changed, except for one additional features of the gemini server being proxied over nex (although this is still a WIP). Eventually all of my misfin-server software will also be moved over to SIS. I am also working on Gopher support, as well as Spartan support for SIS. gemini://auragem.letz.dev/

I don't know why, but ever since switching to Firefox a few months ago, it has been using significantly more ram than Chrome/Edge and so over time it ends up lagging out my whole system. I've switched back to Edge because of this. Something weird is going on with Firefox recently, almost like there's a memory leak or something. Does anyone know anything about this?

I believe I have fixed most of the bugs for my live chat. Btw, this chat system livestreams text in an infinite connection. There are some browsers (like amfora) that don't support this, but lagrange and diohsc should. You can try the chat here: gemini://auragem.letz.dev/chat/ AuraGem Live Chat
