question: would you like to know when, where and how you die?
@breakfast_champion no, i don't feel mortal. i know that i am. and i am not afraid of death, but i am afraid of dying. i am prepared to walk over the bifröst ;) · 1 month ago
na, that takes the fun out of life. i just enjoy every day as if it might happen tomorrow but plan and do finance like i’ll live to 100. both would be disrupted negatively by knowing when and how and where i’ll free my soul back to nature. · 1 month ago
nope · 1 month ago
Hell no. Also, It'd cause some kind of existential crisis, knowing that the universe is entirely deterministic and you're glued to a predetermined fate. Noooo thanks. · 1 month ago
Despite the reality of a more clock like universe than we want bing possible. It would only re-inforce the deterministic (even if it turns out to be true) and I don't like that cosmology. There is a legend that the world is sustained by the actions of 36 righteous individuals. When one is discovered they die and are replaced by another. I like to think that the world sustained by the actions 36 righteous individuals take moment by moment. Thus the responsability and burdon are universal and only your moment expires when it is done. This means you can't know when it is coming, only that you have an obligation to act when it does. · 1 month ago
Not really interested but maybe it would be helpful. How about deciding for yourself like people used to in the old days? One day you feel like you’re fulfilled and decide to pass away. · 1 month ago
@breakfast_champion Even in such a state, I'd be working on ways to get back in the gym ASAP. · 2 months ago
Great manga about the "when": https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ikigami:_The_Ultimate_Limit
Answering the question: I am in the middle of my country's life expectancy. I hardly have more days left to live than I already have. This perspective already helps. · 2 months ago

@martin Your wrists snap, and you fall back, the bar coming right down on your neck. Unfortunately you were lifting weights of such enormous diameter that the bar never actually strikes the killing blow. You spend the rest of your life unable to type properly. You try to hang yourself, but can't tie the knot. Looks like you'll have to live forever! · 2 months ago
Nope. Plus, I already know with a reasonable degree of confidence it'll be while doing somerthing stupid in a gym :) · 2 months ago
Sure. It would make scheduling easier and more rational.
Are you feeling especially mortal these days? · 2 months ago
