I have a title for a gemlog post idea, but I'm probably not gonna find the time to write it... so I'll just leave the provocative title here :D "Individualism is 'Just' Western Buddhism"

I think your draw of distinction really matters, too. In that goal to rid oneself of ego via "enlightenment" they absolutely miss the point of indiscriminately letting yourself and others be as they go on being n let you be in lieu of some superficial desire to "know all n see all" owing itself back to that egoism. · 2 years ago
oh dawg not only do i NOT think that's a hot take, but you wouldn't believe j how much new age "modern healing" stuff is j borrowed from yeeeaars and yeeears of ascetic and hermetic study over the sets of belief in hinduism, buddhism, yeesh even small stuff here n there from zoroastrian n other ibrahimic theology. · 2 years ago
I use the word "just" in quotes because there are important differences. While actual Buddhism cares about people's physicality and mental states, place in the world, and ethics (see The Eightfold Path), individualism only cares about either a notion of one's true self/divine spark (which is really more like Hinduism, actually), or the ridding of one's "mask" or identities (a release), and tends to disregard the "practical" considerations of interacting with other humans and taking care of our mind and body. · 2 years ago
